In-depth workshops
A representative group of GPs and practice managers will be invited to take part in a series of in-depth workshops, working directly with policy leads to shape recommendations on how patient data is used across the NHS.
What the workshops are for
The workshops are the heart of this engagement. They bring together small groups of GPs and practice managers to examine the evidence, weigh up the trade-offs, and develop practical recommendations for DHSC and NHS England.
Each workshop gives you dedicated time to discuss what matters to you with your peers — exploring both the potential benefits and the real risks of proposed changes to how patient data is used. The aim is not to reach an artificial consensus, but to develop a clear, evidence-based set of recommendations that reflects the full range of views in the GP community.
How the workshops are structured
We are running 9 small-group cohorts across England. Each cohort meets three times in a series of workshops, following the same topic through from initial learning to final recommendations.
All workshops will be run online for the convenience of participants and to minimise barriers to participation.
Each cohort focuses on one of three themes:
- Individual patient care
- Planning NHS services
- Health-related research

The summit
A subset of workshop participants will be invited to attend a final online summit in October. This brings together participants from all 9 cohorts to share the results of their deliberations, identify common ground, and develop a final set of recommendations to put to DHSC and NHS England.
Incentives
Participants in the workshops will receive a financial incentive as thanks for their time.
